Let me start by saying that this post is going to piss a lot of people off. Maybe even my partners on this website will think I’m an idiot, but I don’t care, it is an important issue that needs to be addressed:
If you’re a parent who refuses to get your child vaccinated, you’re putting your child at serious risk. And that makes you an asshole!
Vaccinations and immunizations have been proven to work time and time again, in many cases completely eradicating the diseases in which they were created to stop.
How many people do you know that have gotten smallpox? That’s right, ZERO! Why? Because there’s a vaccine that got rid of the shit once and for all.
Think about that for a minute, smallpox is gone from the whole damn planet thanks to a vaccine. You rock vaccines!
Now for all of you dipshit hippies who refuse to get your children vaccinated, wake the hell up. I don’t care who you’re hearing it from, but keeping your children from these lifesaving medicines is quite possibly the most ignorant and arrogant decision any parent could make for their child.
The decision is even more arrogant if it is done on the basis of individual freedom or trying to stand up to those big, evil drug companies. When you become a parent, you leave you leave your ego at the door. This isn’t about you, it’s about the health and well being of your child. To trade that for the ability to say that you stuck it to “the man” is nothing but pathetic.
The truly pathetic folks, actually it is more sickening than anything, are the people who stand on a religious pillar with the idea that vaccinating children and preventing diseases from spreading is somehow interrupting “God’s plan”. Holy crap, I can’t even wrap my head around how stupid this is! Hey folks, if you believe that God has a plan for us all, didn’t he have a plan for the guy that created the vaccine to save a whole shitload of people too?
Now I totally understand parents who are concerned about the risks of serious side effects from these vaccines, especially autism. But I also know how to do math. Absolutely no concrete proof has ever been introduced to show that vaccines cause autism, yet there is a great deal of evidence to show that your child is at incredible risk should they contract a deadly disease and not be vaccinated for it.
I know this little rant isn’t going to change anyone’s minds, if you were planning on vaccinating your children for their protection you still will and if you don’t believe in vaccinations, it’s hard to get your head out of your ass when it’s that far up there.

I laughed out loud reading about the hippies and especially the religious people! Very funny!
The doctors in my son’s pediatric office all have young children. The doctors are vaccinating their precious babies, so it was a NO BRAINER for me

mark, you have to listen to this episode of This American Life… the measles have never been funnier or informative!
one of the interesting points made is that in the past the children who were contracting childhood diseases were mostly poor and minority who could not afford the shots. now that health departments all but give the stuff way, the children who are going without vaccines are those of rich, highly educated white people.
i guess a sense of entitlement knows no bounds.
