baby_video_monitorWhen my wife and I registered for her baby shower (yes, I made sure I got to hold the gun) we got to the baby monitor aisle and we had some choices to make. There were a ton of audio only baby monitors, and there were a few video monitors, but the video monitors were 5 or 10 times as expensive. “Can’t be worth it”, I said. So we picked a audio monitor and went on our way.

However, a family member purchased us the Summer Day and Night Video Baby Monitor with the 7” LCD viewing screen and I have no idea what we would have done without it. It is the best video baby monitor on the market today.

I know, I know. It’s expensive at $199, but it is worth every single penny. If you are having a baby, you must get this video baby monitor or at least some video baby monitor.

Here’s Why You Need A Video Baby Monitor

1. Parental Paranoia - You might think that once you finally are able to put your baby in its own room, it’s time for you to get back to serious sleeping. Boy are you wrong. Now is the time for you to stay up all night listening to the monitor for any sign that something may not be right with your new baby.

Did he roll over and get stuck face down? Has he spit-up with the potential of choking? Is your filthy cat sitting on him to keep him warm? Is your potentially sexual predator neighbor in the process of taking him back to his house for a game of Twister?

You will not believe the crazy shit that goes through your head once your kid is in the other room. Unfortunately, the only way to get those thoughts out of your head for 10 minutes is to check to make sure your baby is still safe and sound. Sure getting up 20 times every night for 2 minutes isn’t that big of a deal, but it is so much nicer to be able to flick on the video of your beautiful baby and know in an instant, from the comfort of your own bed, that everything is ok.

2. Babies Do Hilarious Things When You’re Not Around – I can’t even count the number of times my wife and I have sat there and watched our son on the video monitor as a form of entertainment. It’s not The Office, but even tiny babies can be funny, especially when they realize that they have hands. That’s a great couple of days.

3. So You Don’t Wake Them Up – Babies, as you may have guessed, are fickle sleepers. With a video baby monitor, you never have to worry about waking them up to check on an odd noise.

Summer Day and Night Video Baby Monitor

As I mentioned earlier we absolutely love our Summer Day and Night Video Baby Monitor. Not only does the video work in the day time, but the night vision also allows you to see your child in the darkest of rooms. The set comes with a 7” LCD screen that is portable, but can be mounted anywhere it is convenient. Additionally, there is a portable wireless audio receiver that is great for use during the day when you are up and around.

The only negative thing I can say about this unit is the static/interference we’ve experienced. Because the signal is transmitted wirelessly, walking in front of the monitor can cause some static, as well as electrical items in the house. It they could find some way to eliminate all of those problems, this would be an absolutely perfect system.

Even with the static issue, this would still be my choice, hands down, for a baby monitor if I was buying one today. While expensive, considering how much you will be using the unit over the course of its life, it will be money will spent. Not only that, but the unit pays for itself in peace of mind. And believe me, you’ll need peace of mind to sleep and after that first month, you’d pay anything for some sleep.

And yes, that is Paris Hilton in the sample pic. She does entertaining things in night vision as well.
